8-10pm | Open Mic & Performance | Union Wisconsin Room Lounge (Second floor of the UWM Student Union)

Lyrical Sanctuary is UWM’s monthly open mic night, featuring standout spoken word artists, live music and art, and YOU! For the past 14 years, Lyrical Sanctuary has brought students and community members together to share their passion for poetry, music, art, and creative self-expression. Prior to each performance, the featured artist leads a creative writing workshop open to anyone willing to put their pen to the page.

Nicole Shantè White is a silent cacophony. The quiet one yo mama warned you about. She is a cluster of Midwest accents and Southern hospitality. Nicole has spent the past eight years sharpening her craft by participating in the slam poetry scene, studying poetry at the university level, and teaching creative writing to middle and high school students. Nicole’s work compasses her experiences as a queer womyn of color on a continuous journey of healing. She hates wearing shoes, loves pancakes with crispy edges, and is still trying to figure out when a handshake is more appropriate than a hug. She currently resides on the east coast where enjoys eating dollar pizza and watching people fall asleep on the subway.
