Denim Day

  • Where You Are Milwaukee, WI USA (map)

*Info from Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett*

Denim Day is an international day to raise awareness for sexual assault and discourage victim blaming.

Denim Day grew out of a decision by the Italian government to overturn a rape conviction because the victim was wearing tight jeans. This sparked outrage. In protest, women of the Italian Parliament wore jeans to work the next day to show solidarity with the victim. The movement has now spread into an international awareness day during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Milwaukee is honoring its seventh Denim Day this year.
