First, we started coordinating a True Knowledge Book Drive to establish our inhouse resource library - that is still going strong!
Then, we started collecting books and small items for the 'Little Library/Food Pantry Community Artist Network Project with Groundwork Milwaukee Group- that is still going strong!
And, for the past two years we have hosted local published authors, writers, editors and illustrators at our TRUE Knowledge Library Anniversary event. ( save the date - 4/11/18 )
This year, for our fourth TRUE Knowledge Library Anniversary we are collecting books for a very special reason! We are helping to establish a library in Ghana, Africa and YOU can contribute!!
OUR GOAL IS TO COLLECT 1,000 BOOKS preschool-8th grade.
We are also collecting teacher resource materials such as basic lesson plans, educational posters and games aimed at improving teaching and learning. Can you help us out?
Our African Library Project partner in Ghana is Woadze Tsatoe School & Community.
Woadze Tsatoe is a small village located in the Afadzato District of The Volta Region, Ghana. This village has a total population of about 2000 people. The main occupation of
this people is farming (crop farming and fish farming). Both the old and the young engage themselves in these activities. The community has a school established in 1982 but still lacks
many infrastructures such as classroom block, computer lab, library, place of convenience etc.
Our partners express that they will be so much happier if this library project is established so that teachers, students and community members can freely have access to books to read and other research works. Students will again take advantage of the library after school to do their homework at the same time develop the habit of effective reading. In all, the project will enhance the school and community!
*TYPES OF BOOKS they are requesting - (Math, Science, History, Novels, Fictions , Books by and about African Americans, Encyclopedias, Etc)
*The other part of our goal is to collect about $500 for shipping.
It takes approximately $250 to ship 1,000 books to the ALP warehouse in New Orleans. These figures are based on about 2/3 paperbacks and 1/3 hardbacks. (The more hardcover books we send, the higher our mailing costs.) Then we also send a check for $250 to ALP treasurer to cover a portion of shipping the entire container to Africa.
The deadline for us to mail our books to the ALP New Orleans warehouse is April 20, 2018. We plan on sending off on April 13th - After our TRUE Knowledge Anniversary Event at TRUE Skool on April 11th , 2018.
