The Charles Allis Art Museum invites the community to celebrate the arrival of spring with the debut of two powerful new exhibitions: BIRD BODY by Artist-in-Residence Hattie Grimm, and Waves and Wings: Masterpieces in Motion, a permanent collection installation featuring the works of Winslow Homer and Bruno Ertz.
The Opening Reception for BIRD BODY will be held on Thursday, April 24, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Charles Allis Art Museum, with artist remarks beginning promptly at 6:00 PM. This event is free and open to the public and will include light bites, refreshments, and interactive activities designed to foster creativity and personal reflection.
BIRD BODY explores the intuitive wisdom of our emotional and physical selves through 20 original wooden paintings and sculptures. Inspired by the migratory patterns of birds, Artist-in-residence, Grimm invites guests to connect with the quiet truths within their own bodies. Visitors will be encouraged to participate in two interactive storytelling activities: “Draw Your Own Bird” and “Share Your Bird Story,” offering a communal space for self-expression and connection.
“Birds migrate into the unknown, trusting that better days are ahead,” says Grimm. “BIRD BODY invites viewers to do the same—through instinct, feeling, and embodied wisdom.”
Attendees will also have the opportunity to view the museum’s newest long-term exhibition, Waves and Wings: Masterpieces in Motion, opening the same day. This elegant showcase highlights the fluid beauty of the natural world through the delicate bird and insect studies of Wisconsin artist Bruno Ertz and the iconic coastal watercolors of American master Winslow Homer. Installed throughout the historic mansion and accompanied by curated pieces from the Allis Collection, Waves and Wings offers a meditative journey through movement and stillness in art.
