Respect the Shooters: Cody LaPlant & Damien Klaven

In a world where we tend to focus on the artist on the stage, CopyWrite has always appreciated the men (and women) behind the scenes. 

Which is why we will happily welcome to our spotlight, videographers Cody LaPlant and Damien Klaven.

This powerful duo is a force to be reckoned with by themselves but get them together and watch out for the flames. There visuals bring together a whole new outlook onto the story-telling effects that can be seen in video. Taking modern twists on historical landmarks and creating a whole new voice to something that might have felt lifeless before. 

With collaborative videos for a list of local creatives such as WebsterX, Ish Darr, New Age Narcissism, Kiings, Antics, Job Jetson, Reggie Bonds and Milwaukee's own Among The Prime fashion collections; we understand the hype to get these videographers on your team.

#WCW Yessica Jimenez (Xerione Illustration)

If you haven't heard of this #WCW in 2015, you may need to relearn your alphabet.

In 2015, her "Milwaukee Hip-Hop Alphabet," not only represented MKE's ever growing musical talent but also showcased her skills with a pencil. The alphabet (shown below) introduced some of Milwaukee's artists to the public and even brought together the arts community and the hip-hop community to collaborate more often, and you know we love that!

Yessica aka Xeroine is an illustrator as well as an extremely talented photographer. In her work you can see a mixture of influences from her Mexican roots, urban background, as well as her love for traditional anime and line drawing.

She's always creating and we can't wait to see what she has next for us.

Maybe a mural on the side of a building dedicated to Milwaukee's hip-hop scene? Or a whole gallery of Xeroine Illustrations? Or maybe she will finally be able to finish her alphabet with the final missing letter? Know any hip-hop artist with a 'U' in their name?

#WCW – Rachel Hughes

Milwaukee-based artist, Rachel Hughes first grabbed our attention with an almost complete series for the collective New Age Narcissism. The bold portraits infused the vibe of each artist and Rachel’s unique style onto a wood pallet that no one would want to take their eyes off.

Most of Rachel’s work combines wood, acrylic paint, ink and sharpie to create pieces focusing on the women figure and the culture that surrounds Dia de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead).

And we love it.

But what does she do when she’s not creating masterpieces? Well a little birdy told CopyWrite she’s incredible at a multitude of different crafts, including creating some designs for your favorite Milwaukee night bars. Bad Genie, anyone?

Say word up to our WCW, Lucy Lucy.

As a Melbourne-based street artist, Lucy Lucy takes fashion illustrations and women portraits to a whole new level.

With a range of ethnicities, cultures and patterns contrasted with brick, spray paint and maybe a canvas or two, Lucy’s art inspires CopyWrite’s belief that all women should strive for their biggest, boldest and most fashion-forward self.
