Fashion Friday - Shine Bright

Hello Milwaukee!

Here we are again already for Fashion Friday! These weeks are flying by which means summer will be leaving us soon. :(

Even with last night being a bit chilly, that didn’t stop Elijah from bringing the heat! Until recently I had only seen him on social media so when we ended up at the same spot, I had to grab him for a photo! From head to toe his look hit the mark for me....did you peep his footwork?

To keep up with Elijah and the moves he’s making in fashion, you can follow his Instagram @profashional.eli and also check out some dope merch he’s recently debuted!
As always stay fly and #supportthelocal !

Fashion Friday - Milwaukee’s Finest

This week’s Fashion Friday post goes to someone that not only had a dope look but also he has achieved something pretty dope!

Eugene rocked this Frank Ocean inspired look with black distressed denim, a striped long sleeve tee, and black bandana to tie it all together. Today, Eugene’s original photography will be unveiled along with several other artists from Milwaukee to be displayed at the new Fiserv Forum downtown! NBA players, entertainers of all sorts and thousands of fans from around the world will get to see what talent Milwaukee has to offer for years to come and that’s pretty dope!

To check out some of Eugene’s work, head over to his Instagram and follow him @cartervzls !

Until next time, stay dope.

Fashion Friday - "Issa Trend!"

Let me holla at you guys about something near and dear to my closet and I! Usually I will shy away from trends because it takes away the ability to be original and unique. Today, I am making an exception. Color blocking!

With the release of the Finesse remix, we were reminded of our colorful past that was the 90s and color blocking was huge then. Color blocking features bold sections of different colors being displayed on a piece of clothing.  The bold pattern can even be dated back to the 1980s but due to a conflict of interest (Ahem, I’m a full-blooded 90s baby), I won’t even go there.
Check out some dope shots of my favorite color blocking moments in the past.

Follow me on Instagram @issa.fly.guy to check out more of what I think is fly and show me what you’ve got! I’m watching.

Love MKE,

Fashion Friday with a twist...of honesty

Something Different!

Yoooooo! First off, let's give a shout out one time for the fact that its FRIDAY! Two times for the fact that it’s FASHION FRIDAY!

I missed you guys last week and to be honest, I’ve been in a funk. Nothing too serious but self-doubt has been eating me up. I enjoy being fashionable because its an enhancement of who I am. I express myself through clothing as I am painfully shy. Lately, I have been questioning if I have what it takes to work side by side with some of the designers and stylists of Milwaukee who have inspired me. Do I have the potential to join the ranks of the very best?

Today, I would like to embrace the glow up! What would we say if given the chance to speak to our younger selves? I say to this 19-year-old Jacob to always believe in yourself no matter what. I would tell him that your path is not determined by what others expect from you. Always know that individuality is what sets you apart from the pack.

I encourage you all to keep pushing towards what fulfills your spirit. Never let your current situation situate your future destination!

Fashion Friday - Classic Man with @theclassicshoppe

Back at it again! I hope you all enjoyed your 4th of July festivities but I got some more heat for you!
This week I want to show some love to a local brand, The Classic Shoppe! This week, I was feeling myself in this dope t-shirt from @theclassicshoppe. Usually I have a tough time with getting the right fit with tees but they definitely got me together. Sporting their unisex “Notorious” shirt, I felt the 90s blood running through my body and as a 90s baby, that’s right up my alley!

I reached out to The Classic Shoppe to get the scoop on what they’re about and who their audience is and they provided me this statement from their website, “So it all started when our founder was shopping in a popular contemporary store one day and an overwhelming sense of frustration set in. As she flipped through rack after rack, she became more and more fed up with not being able to find what she was looking for; not one thing represented her. She did not want to wear something with a band she never listened to or a face of someone that she really did not have that much in common with, just because the colors matched what was needed to complete an outfit. And when she did find a rare gem with a person or a quote with whom she could identify, it seemed like it was the same person or quote, just served up different ways. She began to wonder if the culture she loved and respected was truly appreciated or just being picked and pruned to fit into some trend. So she made her own trend, but in reality it was nothing she made and it is far from a trend. It all boils down to this: if we don't honor and preserve our culture, who will? Keep it classic. xoxo”

Its for the culture and I’m here for it! To join the movement and get your hands on some of their merch, you can visit www.theclassicshoppe.com to view all of their products ranging from fanny packs to hoodies! Also, be sure to follow them on Instagram @theclassicshoppe and use the hashtag #JoinTheMovement to show them how you rock the brand! Milwaukee, until next time!

InstaMeet MKE sponsored by CopyWrite Magazine was lit! The energy, creativity, and of course style was in full effect. (& he indeed killed it!)

If you like what you see, you definitely wont want to mix the next one. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Fashion Fridays - Ladies in Red

With the success of the very first InstaMeet MKE event came a lot of creativity! In case you missed it, this past Sunday, different models, photographers, and stylists united in downtown Milwaukee to create art! With on the spot styling, makeshift dressing rooms, and even climbing to the roof of a building, there was no boundary when it came to getting those dope shots.
Among the models that came out, I met Nadjah (@nadjahhasan), Lorena (@heavyheavy.lowlo), and Shienne (@Shiennegh)

Both dressed in red and black berets to match, Nadjah (left) and Lorena (right) caught my eye while being photographed on a roof so I had to capture them together. Both remind me of the boldness that was the 1970s!

I asked the ladies to describe their personal styles to me and Nadjah said. “My personal style is all on how I feel...I love how no matter what I wear if I am comfortable and I’m feeling it it doesn’t matter who loves it and who doesn’t.”
Lorena explained, “I would describe it as fun and spunky. I love changing it up all the time.”

Near the end of the event, I spotted Shienne whose look put me in the mindset of New York City during the 70s! Her multi patterned dress and red beret went very well with a denim heeled boot.
Shienne told me, “My style is pretty laid back. I like it mix vintage pieces I find thrifting with modern. Also I love to wear converse and vans cause I love to be casual and comfortable.”

Fashion Fridays - PrideFest ButterFly

Happy Fashion Friday!
With Pridefest officially behind us, festival season is upon us and so are the looks that we need to talk about! Although it was a gloomy and rainy weekend, that did not dim Tabatha’s shine one bit! Dressed in all black with her attention-grabbing kimono-like jacket, everything was very fluid and seemed natural. I myself am a fan of keeping it simple while having that one piece that brings the heat and Tabatha delivered. From head to toe she owns every part of her outfit....and did you catch the butterflies in her hair?? Dope!!

I asked Tabatha to define her personal style and this is what she said, “My personal style... I like to think I’m the 6th spice girl. If Mel B, Kelis, and Carrie Bradshaw had an offspring... that’d be me, lol! Although I’ve always been very shy my style has always spoken for me. I'm a very quiet person however when I put on my what feels like my armor, I feel loud, present, vivacious, and indomitable.”

Until next time MKE, I’ve got my eyes on you! 🔥

Fashion Fridays - The Haze

This weeks look: The Haze. Fringe, contrast & subtle detail.

Nothing says “PARTY” like fringe and it is definitely my favorite go-to look right now. Fringe has experienced a rebirth in the last couple of years and I am here for all of it!
This look is pretty comfortable as we transition into summer as festival season starts up! Not too hot but not too cold.
The way I define my personal style, is by comparing it to the costume of a superhero! When I get dressed, that’s when those powers activate. Fashion makes me feel unstoppable and that is what I want for everyone this summer.

Locally Fresh Pop Up Fashion Show

This past Sunday CopyWrite was invited to attend the “Locally Fresh” fashion show presented by The Classic Shoppe & Fresh Bucks Custom Designs. This show promised to bring “homegrown fashion” and stylings from several “local” brands. The effort to show that everything you need to be fresh can be found right here in MKE was proven by including not only clothing designs but sponsors like B.A.R.E. Cosmetics and KRS, Hair & Wax Studio.

The event was held at Mr. J’s Lounge (4610 W Fond Du Lac Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53216), where there was plenty of space for vendor stands, mingling, food, and drinks! Our VIP status (Thanks Marie!) came with custom grab bags filled with merch, vouchers, and snacks. Let's make this very clear, we love free things! Lol

But let's get to the fashion:

While there were several brands in the building, the ones who stood out were the ones who had there branding on point, a cohesive look selection and models with confidence.

*All images provided by designers social media accounts*

The best part of the show was seeing people come together to #SupportTheLocal fashion community and to inspire collaboration. We always say we need more of this in MKE and Marie (organizer and owner of The Classic. Shoppe) assures us that there will be more events like this. We can't wait!

A bit of advice for the next time around, slow down the pace, make us eager for more...then deliver! Get the videographer off the runway! Paparazzi in a models face can throw them off guard and off step....and let the designers speak. We want to know about the process, that makes the difference between just a graphic Tee company and a Fashion Brand.

Now...let me embarrass myself & our new Fashion Ambassador Jacob with our low quality pictures in front of the step and repeat.

All in all, we had fun. I can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday!
