Saint Miguel - SNAKE (Video Submission)

“I really want to highlight the highly underrated side of Milwaukee music. While the (insert MKE rapper name here)  and (insert another MKE rapper name here) have their place, I believe Milwaukee has so much more to offer. . . ” - Saint Miguel

PAUSE.

This is shade my friends. . . But as we like to say when fugazi has its moment of relevancy, “ I’ll allow it.”

Why? Because that's why we have a blog at /CW, to challenge the norm and push multiple perspectives of Urban culture & talents.

But anyways, confident in his “more to offer” Saint Miguel has popped up with a video submission for his track ‘SNAKE’ of his recently released project 0730. Young, clever, with those purposefully underwhelming dramatics (that's definitely a thing in 2018, don't fight us on this), this visual is what Saint Miguel wants us to see as his first reach out to our audience.

Clap for’em!

Even if you did low-key downplay what is “representational” to poppin’ music coming out of Milwaukee, the shots fired got you noticed, so there is the #Win.

Word of advice, next time, leave the names out. The work will speak for its self.

Watch the video here, and let us know if you want to hear more from Saint Miguel.

Official Music Video for the song "SNAKE." If you didnt peep the message the snake is symbolized by the woman, and in the video she actually doesn't exist. Her lust for money however set the boys who were once friends all against each other. F O L L O W M E !!

Taiyamo Denku - Still Waiting (ft. Benny The Butcher)

What are we waiting for?

Definitely not consistency Lol.

Taiyamo Denku is back, AGAIN. With his track ‘Still Waiting’ featuring Benny The Butcher. Emcees have been at societies head since we can remember and this track is no exception. With a smooth piano sample and some shots fired at the lack thereof active progressive change, the track pushes the comfort limits of hesitation on the subject. With the classic Denku, original hip-hop sound, this track whether you like it or not is making some valid points, we all might need to address.

Drop your thoughts below, let's start the conversation.

/CW

After Working With Conway on his Initial Single for "No Industry Standard" Denku the Milwaukee Native Emcee was just getting started. On Still Waiting He Called Upon Griselda's newest Stand Out Emcee Benny The Butcher. Both Denku & Benny tell their sides of the changes they are still waiting for to happen. Benny almost does a continuation of his single "Changes" but adds even more Present information in his verse. Overall for the end of the album this song fits well to Conclude "No Industry Standard" You can get your copy here if you have not already. https://taiyamodenku.bandcamp.com/album/no-industry-standard

Lili K - Best Friend

Lili K is back!

Out here killing the game this, MKE native (who last time we checked was living in Chicago),  has been stepping into industry territory for quite some time now, and we have been watching to see what she really has up her sleeve.

From her project  ‘Planet of Flowers’ slated to release this fall, she has dropped a new single titled ‘Best Friend’. A soulful acoustic construct of good vibes, times that are missed, and longing realities. Touching close to home, this song about friendship creates a moment to just pause and take in where we are in life and where we are headed.

Her scatting, her delivery and of course her voice quality is a dream, as always. We can't wait to hear more.

So check out ‘Best Friend’ and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Fashion Friday - "Issa Trend!"

Let me holla at you guys about something near and dear to my closet and I! Usually I will shy away from trends because it takes away the ability to be original and unique. Today, I am making an exception. Color blocking!

With the release of the Finesse remix, we were reminded of our colorful past that was the 90s and color blocking was huge then. Color blocking features bold sections of different colors being displayed on a piece of clothing.  The bold pattern can even be dated back to the 1980s but due to a conflict of interest (Ahem, I’m a full-blooded 90s baby), I won’t even go there.
Check out some dope shots of my favorite color blocking moments in the past.

Follow me on Instagram @issa.fly.guy to check out more of what I think is fly and show me what you’ve got! I’m watching.

Chloé - AirPlane Mode (Video Submission)

“I’m unforgiving” - Okay! Tell us how you really feel! Lol

Today’s submission is coming straight out of the Chi, from R&B artist Chloé.

The video ‘AirPlane Mode’ captures what happens when you leave your phone unattended around Bae.

Bloop! No good ever comes from that! Chloé, however, seems to be dealing with her heartbreak just fine, ignoring Derick as we speak!

So check out this video and make sure you don’t get put on 'AirPlane Mode'.

Dirty Thoughts - Not Much To Say. . . Just Yet

I bet you didn't notice, but I definitely did not get to post a Dirty Thoughts for this June.

The team & I had been so busy gathering content, attending all these festivals and conducting all these dope interviews for our next issue of the mag (mmm hmmm it's coming) that I forgot to sit down and give you all my monthly rant. Shame on me! I’m sorry (to the 5 of you who actually take the time out to laugh at my fool a**).  But I don't have much to say this time around.

So quick updates:

  • My curl pattern is back! So I been growing my hair back and went on a small heat hiatus. Now my curls have reappeared bouncy like a bed spring. I look like a puddle and yall love it. So if I’m trendy it's not because I want to be, its because my hair belongs to my genetics and I have lost all control!

  • I am looking for several interns for this upcoming fall at /CW. Do you want a cool supervisor? Do you want to explore arts and creativity? Do you love all things  Urban and #SupportTheLocal? Well apply to be #SQUAD

  • We are re-introducing /CW subscriptions! For $45 a year you get first dibs on new releases of our quarterly issues and VIP treatment at all /CW events. This is a steal! You guys are really out here robbing me! Lol

  • I’m also taking a small social media break. If you can't find me, its because I’m not trying to be found. Lol Don't DM me about /CW

Now for something unexpected. . .

I have a surprise coming. I’m . . .

You will just have to wait for that news *wink wink*

Jayne Joyce - Jayne (EP)

Ohhh Jayne! We have been waiting for you!

A breath of fresh air coming straight out of the “Dynasty” (insider) from the House of Renji. Jayne Joyce has released her debut EP, self-titled ‘Jayne”. This four-song project reflects a voice we have yet conquered in the 414 with, strategic collaborations, a feature at Summerfest during Genesis Renji’s set and a smooth execution she will be heard. Her soulful push between jazzy melodies, R&B textures and a spoken word like lyricism, ‘Jayne’ is “introspective”.

Our favorite track: ‘Knives’ because baby girl is cutting those undertones!

Go ahead and give a listen and let us know what you think.

We will say it now. . .We definitely want more Jayne Joyce!

(Available on all streaming platforms)

Joe Quinto - Rehab

“Sike I’ll see your ass in hell”

Ha! Well, tell us how you really feel. Joe Quinto a long time “fan and follower of CopyWrite” (Thank you Joe) has dropped a new song that is giving us nostalgic Gym Class Heroes vibes and witty formulation of destructive traits. His song titled ‘ Rehab’ is “a juxtaposed track that ties a correlation between being in a toxic relationship and the effects of addiction”.

Unlike Amy, Joe is begging to go to Rehab, to get a real fix. With a more upbeat tempo, it takes what could be a sobby scenario and turns it into a POP structured reality.

With a little bit of addiction in all of us, this might just be the tune for you.

Listen and comment below and let us know if ‘Rehab’ is really the place for Joe Quinto to be.

Fashion Friday with a twist...of honesty

Something Different!

Yoooooo! First off, let's give a shout out one time for the fact that its FRIDAY! Two times for the fact that it’s FASHION FRIDAY!

I missed you guys last week and to be honest, I’ve been in a funk. Nothing too serious but self-doubt has been eating me up. I enjoy being fashionable because its an enhancement of who I am. I express myself through clothing as I am painfully shy. Lately, I have been questioning if I have what it takes to work side by side with some of the designers and stylists of Milwaukee who have inspired me. Do I have the potential to join the ranks of the very best?

Today, I would like to embrace the glow up! What would we say if given the chance to speak to our younger selves? I say to this 19-year-old Jacob to always believe in yourself no matter what. I would tell him that your path is not determined by what others expect from you. Always know that individuality is what sets you apart from the pack.

I encourage you all to keep pushing towards what fulfills your spirit. Never let your current situation situate your future destination!

TrashMan Shunny - CULTURESHOCK (EP)

Seattle’s TrashMan Shunny, the newest member of the Hiii Tribe collective, is stepping in the ring these ways with his new EP ‘CULTURESHOCK’.

His team claims, “Throughout ‘CULTURESHOCK,’ you will find many catchy and charismatic phrases along with TrashMan Shunny's trademark use of Similes”.

The playful, new era vibes of rap are lingering here. Life is not that serious and neither is this EP. The challenge is the movement of content, can you catch the vibe, do you hear the subtle undertones? Its something there. . . We are not usual ones to compare but we hear some unrefined Mac Miller in this style. Hmmmmm Okay.

Our favorite track: Everyday (Prod. Younng Poet)

Check out ‘CULTURESHOCK’ and let us know what you think in the comments below.

CULTURESHOCK is a group of songs cultivated off of the upcoming project "Smoking Dope In South America" that are either loosies or left of the album.
