Ammorelle Cinema EP Release Party

#issamovie

Young, unique, and gifted. What a star forming triplex.

Ammorelle, is out with her new  EP “Cinema”, which she kicked off with a cinematic listening party August 25th, at MKE’s ornamented Tripoli Shrine Temple.

Her work being on the /CW “come up” radar for the last year or so, we thought it be interesting to see what the “newbie” MKE music scene is cooking up.

The event was inviting, interestingly diverse and of course musically entertaining. There was a little bit of everything to keep you interested. Drinks, “red carpet” photo ops, merch, belly dancing, free raffle, and even a complimentary popcorn bar…Yum! (What was on that stuff... was that a hint of fresh pepper or was I tripping? lol)

One of my favorite additives to the event would have to be the live body art done by Liv Venus, featuring Hollis Key as her model and custom body painting by  Lotus Valentine. I myself caught a session and received an abstract blue bird over my lower leg. It was so pretty I didn't want to wash it off. (I kind of enjoy being a canvas.)

3.jpg

Though the lady of the hour was Ammorelle, she shared her stage with a live band and guest acts, Fivy, RoyalT Mcf, & Randy II. and poetry by Uniquee. Her own performance was very intimate, vibey and refreshing because Ammorelle’s aura was simply all her own. She had her inside jokes, her commentary to the crowd and her ad lib like noises. Her voice became a part of the band. She was enjoying her moment.

As far as the EP goes, Cinema is a nice touch to the opening credits of Ammorolle’s career. Her vocals are soulful and sultry, but edgy, and carefree. The contrast between her young aura totes the line with her more matured acoustics.

Where tracks like “Superbad” have you feeling yourself, the song “*69” brings some playful allusions that still show strategy in lyric choice and artistic identity.

Amorelle, just like a movie is giving all of us something to watch. With a great support system, a grounded squad and an open mind, there is no reason that this “sound” won't pop!

Chico Manolo - Last Forever

We haven't heard from Chico for a while now, so when he hit us up with his new track. We had to give it a shot.

Chico Manolo definitely snatched our ears with this one! "Last Forever" is a smooth track to vibe to, imagine riding the skyline at night; are you seeing it? Now play this song. Chico matched the beat produced by Mammyth with solid bars! When Chico spits "What type of king would make his queen look stupid," We knew we'd have this song in rotation.

Next stop, #CWApprovedPlayList

Kewl Feat Eddie Jame$- Supreme

Want something new to listen to? Check out Supreme by Kewl featuring Eddie Jame$. I am a jigger, don’t go the wrong way with that, let me explain! When I truly vibe to a song I inadvertently “jig” to it.

Supreme makes me “jig.”

The song starts, the beat is super chill, but the bars are there from the beginning! Catch the line where Kewl says, “... takin’ shots that’s a b-roll.” (Yeah that was cold; you media minds will understand that reference). When the bass drops Kewl uses that as another opportunity to go off, and continues on a constant flow throughout the song. Did you breathe sir?

Eddie Jame$ comes in and gives the track even more sauce, slowing it down a bit over the beat, letting listeners “feel it.”

Overall the song is dope; I will definitely listen when I’m trying to catch a vibe, now it’s your turn! Let us know what you think! Listen & watch “Supreme” below:

Poetry Submission: Natalia Rivas "El Más Allá"

El Más Allá

I pity the person who looked me in my eyes and deemed me not enough

Pity to the person who touched god herself and missed the opportunity to familiarize themselves with my divine

People who had the pleasure of tasting my aura, wearing the sweet milk of my energy, and still wasted my time

To those who imagined they would feel the silk of my valleys with filthy hands

I gave them leaves of the oleander instead

Unfortunate, the soul who laid in my bed resting their selfish head

in the lap of Venus looking for nourishment and enchantment to enrich the fetus state of mind

Thinking extraordinary companionship was beneath us but still had the bravado to treat us like we were no more than just

birds of paradise growing in lust

Hapless the creature who scorned my trust

Boundless and seamless but through me, they have tried to thrust

And still, I stand phenomenally, every part of my spirit radiant

Unreachable like stars past our galaxies explored

Unreachable like a sustainable planet living in the beyond, they have tried to claim me with insatiable thirsts, swallowing, wanting more

Blessed were those who have touched me and then left with samples of me, believing in their hands and eventually pockets would forever be whole pieces of me

A glimpse of ethereal femininity

Is all that you had and I’m glad I never gave more of me than I could part with

I’m glad knowing every compartment within me is a gift

I am holy

Get to know the Poet:

"I like to think of myself as a warm and eccentric latinx, hailing from the south side of Milwaukee. I was born and raised in MKE but I’ve done my fair share of traveling; living abroad as well. Reading, painting, spirituality, writing, and nature, have been my most consuming passions in life. I create poems for sad girls of color in need of empowerment and love.

I remember watching an HBO Family special on outlets for children handling tough times. They happened to showcase a boy whose parents were going through a divorce. Mine also were at the time. To help cope with what he couldn’t understand, he began to write about it. Seeing his happiness was the beginning of my love affair with creative writing. At ten years old, I began to use poetry as a release for my emotions and thoughts, which can become heavy and weigh me down. Taking a pen to paper is my therapy. In my darkest moments, my love and need to pull poems from within has saved me from drowning in life’s sorrows. Poetry is my greatest strength and simultaneously my healthiest comfort. I want to share my love with the world through words laced in romanticism."

"From backyard boogies to gallery shows and bar gigs, Emmitt James is a well celebrated and experienced performer. The Midwest bred emcee is a hip-hop artist who fuses lyrical poetry with modern hip-hop stylings all over live jazz esq instrumentals provided by the rotating line up of The Feel Goods. The Feel Goods are a Los Angeles based hip-hop jazz band whose composition ranges from drums and electric bass to saxophone and violin. Resistant to the idea of being labeled a rapper, Emmitt's live show is relatable, mindful, and genuine no matter if it's a homie's backyard or sold out show at more established venues. James has been gaining momentum in LA, making his Low End Theory debut July 2017 and opening for acts such R.LUM.R, Cuco, and Jesse Baez.

Making AMY proud // Amy Winehouse Tribute by VoodooHoney

Amy Winehouse was a force to be reckoned with.

Her music had this energy to it. The kind of energy that made you want to cry because you felt her pain, the kind of energy that moved the room, and the kind of energy that made you rethink if you ever loved hard enough or if you were just kidding yourself.

She was REAL and her voice could snatch the soul out of any listener in the radius.

So when CopyWrite heard that VoodooHoney Records was putting on an Amy Winehouse Tribute in July; we had to be there. It couldn’t be missed.

The Amy Winehouse Supper Club was a two-day event honoring the late songstress on the 6th year anniversary of her passing (July 23rd, 2011) and when we talk about energy in the room; the WHOLE event brought it.

CopyWrite went to the “opening” night and at 9pm; Company Brewing was packed with guests for both supper reservations but also a standing crowd that was there in anticipation for the amazing line-up of soulful voices to come.

Our supper reservation (luckily enough) gave us some of the best seats in the house; front row to the stage and all the action. Supper included an ‘A la carte’ menu along with the full Company Brewing dinner menu. And yes, for those of you who don’t know, not only is Company Brewing a great place for a drink and some live local music; they are also a fully-functioning brewery and restaurant (all-day) serving good and bougie crafted beer/cocktails along with some good and bougie food right there in Riverwest. Emphasis on the Bougie.

But back to the music; the show was incredible to say the least. Split into three sections with short intermissions, the line-up included most of our local favorite singers who put their spin on either a classic Amy song or a jazz song that Amy covered at one point in her career.

It was all really breathtaking witnessing such a diverse crowd all gather to enjoy Amy’s legacy.

It even says more when the crowd was brought to silence for multiple acts throughout the night.

Some highlights of the night were Siren’s acoustic version of ‘Back to Black’, Lili K’s rendition of ‘Best Friends’, Abby Jeanne (just all of her), Angie Swan with the vocals of Olivia Gonzales on ‘Valerie’, Yasmeen Daniels ‘Wake Up Alone’ and Arsène DeLay (who traveled all the way from New Orleans). Then let’s just clap for the whole band. **clap for ‘em**

The sultry, vivacious, melodic vibe that Amy possessed was captivated by the unique qualities in each musician and vocalist, which is no easy task.

Also we can’t forget Jay’s (what we assume) drunk anecdotes on a stage that was rightfully owned and operated by him. He deserved it.

Needless to say, we loved it. We love Amy and we love Jay for putting this together. We’ll be waiting for a VooDooHoney album of this whole set (Thank us later and call up Universal.)

/Syn for CW

**P.S. I was bias. I love Amy Winehouse and literally every artist that came on the stage killed it and I could have mentioned them all. Peace.

CopyWrite X Summerfest - Flume

CopyWrite at Summerfest. Ayyyyy. Yeet! Yeet!

After being at Summerfest for years as a spectator, I went out on the first day to get a feel for things as press… and I picked quite the day. I could see the storm clouds brewing as I rode in to the grounds. Darkness descends on the Hoan Bridge and I attacked the night with the happy-go-lucky CopyWrite attitude that attracted management to me…

I recognized fugazi was fugazi and said “might as well.”

The fugazi...

The fugazi...

Even with all the water, I had a decent day as press. Got the run around a couple times because only certain people on the Summerfest security team know what the media credential looks like, but once it was all squared away, I saw a dope performance by Flume.

Lights and heavy bass. That’s what I really need in this world.

Check out some shots below.
