On July 9, African American Roundtable's (AART) Youth Council along with Milwaukee area youth and creatives will unveil the "Visions 2 Life" mural on the city's northside and host a block party. This past winter, the African American Roundtable (AART) held a series of listening sessions for Milwaukee youth to discuss what it means to be liberated. From those conversations stemmed an artistic vision of what liberation in Milwaukee looks like for local youth.
WHAT: Visions 2 Life Mural Reveal and Block Party, featuring food, fun, give aways, and performances and remarks from Milwaukee youth
WHO: African American Roundtable
AART’s Youth Council
Artists Justin McCulla and Terrell Morgan
City of Milwaukee youth, their families, and community members
WHEN: July 9, 2022 at Noon
WHERE: 4861 N. Teutonia Ave., Milwaukee, WI
WHY: AART asked Milwaukee youth, “What does liberation look like to you?” Young people from all over the city submitted artwork and poetry defining a future where they are all liberated, blossoming and walking in their power. This mural is a life-size version of that vision. For media inquiries, contact AART's Community Program Manager, Ryeshia Farmer at ryeshia@africanamericanroundtable.org or 414.659.4526.
About The Youth Council
By creating spaces that cultivate holistic health and peace (for family units and individuals), AART's Youth Council exemplifies the family-oriented communities we experienced growing up. The Visions 2 Life Block Party, mural unveiling, and preceding youth engagement activities sum up our work to cultivate relationships with local schools, youth centers, and community members. These pilot projects will sharpen AART’s vision for future and deeper youth engagement.
