Neu-Life Community Development is excited to announce its Annual Black History Program, scheduled for February 27th, 2025, at Neu-Life Community Development in Milwaukee. This year’s event theme is “Rooted”, focusing on the deep connection between Black culture and its African ancestry. This vibrant and immersive celebration will honor and explore the rich cultural traditions that have shaped the African diaspora, with special emphasis on four key elements: food, fashion, dance, and folklore.
The event promises to offer a powerful reflection on how African heritage continues to influence modern-day Black culture. Highlights of the Program Include:
Food: Guests will experience a diverse selection of traditional African dishes and contemporary fusion cuisine, reflecting the incredible culinary traditions of the continent. The menu is curated and catered by the Farmfork Youth Culinary Program.
Fashion: The runway will showcase African-inspired garments, highlighting the intricate patterns, vibrant colors, and craftsmanship that tell stories of ancestry and identity.
Dance: Live performances will feature traditional African dances alongside contemporary Black dance forms, illustrating the evolution of movement and expression from African roots to modern interpretations.
Folklore: The program will also spotlight powerful African stories and legends, shared through spoken word and storytelling, illustrating the importance of preserving oral traditions.
“Our theme, ‘Rooted,’ reflects the importance of understanding and celebrating where we come from,” said Chanda Harris, Director of Impact and curator for the Black History Program. “We want to honor the rich legacy of African culture and show how those deep roots continue to nourish and shape our lives today.”
Neu-Life Community Development team encourages the public to join in this celebration of Black history and African heritage. The event is free but seating is limited.
