Let's stay healthy together /CW Fam | Get Health Insurance before Jan. 15th

Hey CW\ fam!

As you know here at CopyWrite we always maintain a focus towards being #SociallyResponsible. We care about community, and community starts with YOU. If the past couple years haven’t shown us anything, they’ve shown us how important health is individually and as a collective.

Health insurance is a way for us to take care of ourselves. It covers health benefits that are essential to maintaining your everyday health needs. Anything from preventative care, to illness, injury, accidents, medications, mental health services, and more.

Through the 2022 Marketplace enabled by the Affordable Care Act— also known as Obamacare—you’re able to get health insurance at no or low-cost. Under the new law with the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 more people than ever before qualify for help paying for health coverage even if they weren’t eligible in the past.

Also, for many people currently enrolled in a Marketplace plan may qualify for more tax credits and with lower premiums also available under the new act, means more savings for the things you live for. That means checking to see if your eligible may also benefit you!

Healthy MKE is a coalition of public health, local government, non-profit, and community organizations promoting a vision for a healthy Milwaukee. Using Healthy MKE you can find out in less than 2 minutes if you qualify to get a no or low-cost plan. All you have to do is use this link: Click here to find coverage.

Let’s continue to take care of ourselves in 2022. Don’t miss the deadline. Open enrollment for healthcare coverage closes January 15th.

 Milwaukee Community Health Survey Underway

Every voice is needed in an online survey that is helping shape Milwaukee’s health priorities.

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County residents have the opportunity to have their voices heard about the health of our community by participating in an anonymous, online survey running now through September 24, sponsored by Milwaukee area health systems.  Information and links to the survey in English and Spanish can be found on healthyMKE.com

Hosted every three years by the Milwaukee Health Care Partnership, the survey is part of a Community Health Needs Assessment in Milwaukee County. The assessment helps health care providers and public health departments better understand the needs of our communities, establish health priorities, and improve programs and services.

The community health survey is being conducted on behalf of Advocate Aurora Health, Ascension Wisconsin, Children’s Wisconsin, and Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin. Survey participants will be able to learn about how their responses helped shape future health priorities in January, when the health assessment findings will be published and shared broadly with community organizations, civic leaders and the general public.

“Residents’ input is critical to the success of our shared health needs assessment,” says Justin Rivas, Community Health Director with the Milwaukee Health Care Partnership. “The assessment serves as the foundation from which hospitals, community health centers, and local health departments develop their community health improvement strategies, so we need as many voices as possible to help shape the future of health services in our area.”

The ten-minute health survey focuses on issues such as access to health care, tobacco use, alcohol use, diet, physical activity, cancer prevention, heart health, injury prevention, immunizations, children’s health, mental health, and chronic disease.  It also includes questions about factors that affect health – including the environment, education, trauma and racism.

Milwaukee Health Commissioner, Kirsten Johnson points out that the survey findings will help inform the health department’s own community health assessment and health improvement plan. “We are grateful to the health systems for including local health departments in the survey deployment.  Its focus on health behaviors as well as the social determinants of health, reflects our shared commitment to address the many factors that influence health and health equity.”

“We want every county resident, from every walk of life, to take this survey,” says Milwaukee County Director of the Department of Health and Human Services, Shakita LaGrant-McClain.  “It is an opportunity to help us understand what is needed to make Milwaukee a healthier place for all – and the healthiest county in the state. It is vital that all community voices are heard in this important health improvement planning process.”

The community health survey for adults 18 years and older in Milwaukee County is open until September 24th.  It contains 43 questions and takes about 10 minutes to complete, with additional questions for households with children.  The survey can be found in English and Spanish on healthyMKE.com.

Since 2010, the health system members of the Milwaukee Health Care Partnership - Advocate Aurora Health, Ascension Wisconsin, Children’s Wisconsin, and Froedtert and the Medical College - have shared the funding and design of Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNAs) in six southeastern Wisconsin counties in collaboration with 17 local public health departments.  Sharing CHNA costs and execution helps health systems allocate resources wisely, and helps the Milwaukee area hospitals - individually and collectively - establish concrete goals for health education, programs and community investments.

Vaccine Seekers in Advance of April 5 Eligibility Expansion

Milwaukee’s trusted online resource for vaccine information now features an enhanced COVID vaccine locator to connect the community with appointments across Milwaukee County

Milwaukee, WI – HealthyMKE, a one-stop source of trusted information on COVID vaccines and other health resources, has been upgraded in advance of next week’s significant expansion of statewide vaccine eligibility with the addition of a robust vaccine locator feature to help connect the Milwaukee community with vaccinators, community events and walk-in clinics in neighborhoods throughout Milwaukee county.

“HealthyMKE provides real-time updates from Milwaukee vaccinators on locations and community events in Milwaukee county,” said Greg Stadter, the UEOC’s Vaccine Navigation workgroup chair. “It is a critical component of our efforts to improve access to vaccines and advance health equity.”

The site launched initially in December through a partnership with the Milwaukee Unified Emergency Operations Center (UEOC) and is developed and maintained by INPOWER, a local Black- and woman-owned communications agency located in the 53206 ZIP code. The site offers a variety of trusted information on the vaccines, including Frequently Asked Questions, infographics and links to important resources from local, state and federal agencies, and is fully accessible in both Spanish and Hmong as well as English.

“Our intent is for HealthyMKE to serve as the first step for members of our community as they formulate their vaccine plan,” said Aziz Abdullah, co-founder of INPOWER and part of the site’s development team. “Particularly now, with our entire adult population days from vaccine eligibility, it’s essential that we offer easy-to-use resources for those who are eager to get vaccinated, and those looking for more information.”

When using the vaccine locator tool, site visitors will be able to explore the wide variety of potential vaccination options geographically closest to them, including clinics run by the City, County, local health departments, health care providers, pharmacies and others. Each vaccinator listing includes details on eligibility, whether or not appointments are required, and links for online scheduling if applicable. While primarily geared towards those who live or work in Milwaukee County, many of the site’s resources are applicable to anyone in Wisconsin, including links to other vaccine finder services like Wisconsin DHS’s statewide vaccine provider map and the CDC-backed national Vaccine Finder tool.

For individuals who can’t or prefer not to access HealthyMKE’s vaccine location information online, assistance in finding vaccine locations in Milwaukee County is also available via phone at 844-684-1064.

HealthyMKE is supported with funding and resources from Milwaukee Health Care Partnership, Medical College of Wisconsin, Greater Milwaukee Foundation, United Healthcare Community Plan of Wisconsin and the Alliance of Health Insurers.

Established in March 2020, the UEOC facilitates efforts among local government, fire, EMS, law enforcement, public health, health care, academia, the business community and others to coordinate and elevate a unified multi-sector public health response to the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing affected vulnerable populations.
