China Shadae SINGLE "Pull Up"

China Shadae's  latest single “Pull Up” should surely be added to your R&B playlist. For starters, China Shadae’s voice is incredible and her talent is undeniable, shining bright in this record alone. I think this song flowed so perfectly because she was in alignment with each element of the beat. The beat is another thing that I really love simply because that is one of the most inclusive parts of a song. You may not remember the words to a song but you’ll always remember a good beat, credits to Geronimo Approved, Hossy and TCF Live. I noticed the inspiration from Bobby’s Brown “Every Little Step I Take” in the chorus, I think she definitely it tastefully and creatively. One thing about China Shadae, her hooks and choruses are consistent in their ability to captivate. That’s another thing that makes a song memorable and really adds to why I like this song. This isn’t the only song of hers that has me intrigued, songs like “Secret Love” and “Burn”  have also been added to my library. It’s no question that China Shadae is making her way into the mainstream world of R&B, the only question is when.

Alex Jean- Kingdom Faith EP

We all love a good old school gospel song right? We were brought up on the traditional old school gospel hymns and although we love them, Alex Jean is giving us a new sound. Jean brings an eclectic mix of Christian rap on his latest EP, “Kingdom Faith”, mixing new school rap with old school worship surely worked out in his favor for this project.

My favorite song on this project is “Forever in Faith” because in this song, like most of his others, the beat reminds you of a non Christian rap song. I almost wanna say he’s like…a Christian Partynextdoor. But after the beat comes in and the lyrics begin, you will see just how powerful Jean’s artistic abilities are through each verse.

“Back in the O, straight from the A (Don’t you think like that) I'm walking with God, I don't need a DRAC' (I will love you endlessly) The Devil be talking, I don't entertain (huh, huh) (If you'd only believe) I'm walking in faith (In me)”

Imagine getting so deep into a song you forget what it’s about! I forgot I was giving praise to the Most High I almost started jigging! Don’t sleep on Christian rap and R&B, not only is the message pure, the delivery is fire, especially if it comes from Alex Jean’s discography. Let me know what you think!

CJ Folds- “Can’t Get Over You” EP

CJ Folds returns 5 months post Album drop (Check out “Love at War: Mr. Lonely”,) with some more heat. Can't Get Over You continues the narrative of the lover boy turned ‘Mr. Lonely’ except this sideline story is of a lover whom he spends most of the time admiring from a distance. Deciphering whether or not this love is unrequited is up to the listener but with the first track “Scared to Love” CJ gives his first person view of a girl who grew comfortable with dishing out what she was given; Making no effort, not even with her appearance, to keep love close. While keeping her guard up into “Time Heals,” CJ Folds continues to encourage her to embrace him. “Someone Said” is where the tea gets hot because it could be either one of them speaking at this point! On one hand, CJ could have realized the painful truth of what is to come of pursuing a relationship with someone who was way too jaded to begin with, OOOORRR- he is just listening as his potential lover shares her reasons for viewing love the way that she does. Sounds Juicy!! Wrapping up this EP, “I Dont Wanna” with its repetitive, and at times, vague lyricism laid over guitar strings leaves room for the listener to focus on the optimism that the young artist, and his label mate Langston on the feature, has held onto throughout this project and leads us into “Butterflies,” a slow jam, R&B style song featuring another label mate Aremit that shows how real those butterflies still are whether struggling to get over your past or diving heart first into something new.

Tell me how YOU feel about “ Can’t Get Over You ” Milwaukee. /Naomi-Re’a for CW
