House of Renji - 'Young Casanova: LILY (An Interlude)' & 'And Then S H E Was Gone: The Same Love Story, Different Characters'

We’ve learned years ago that you never underestimate the House of Renji and with these “Ying and Yang” projects from both Genesis Renji and Emmitt James we’re remembering why.

While in different parts of the country, east coast resident Genesis Renji brings us his alter ego, Giovanni "Young" Casanova in 'Young Casanova: LILY (An Interlude)' where he tells his stories of women he meets on his departure.

Contrasted by his west coast resident and House-mate, Emmitt James with 'And Then S H E Was Gone: The Same Love Story, Different Characters' where he tells the story of trying to convince his latest crush that they should become a thing before it's too late.

These projects collide together creating not only an urge to listen to both projects but also a question of “What really happens at the end of these love stories?” Will happily wait for our answer if that means more tracks to come.

Until then, we know this won’t be the last time we hear from the House. Take a listen and tell us what you think below.

Rock Hunger 10

Who said you couldn’t get “lit” for a cause?

Well for Rock Hunger 10, hosted by The Best Place, it definitely could be said that it was the most “lit” benefit concert we’ve been to this season.

Bringing to the stage performers ranging from jazz-fusion to hip-hop, the concert featured an impressive line-up of Secret Gaijin, Low Down Sound, Mic Kellogg, No No Yeah Okay, Lex Allen (with the help from NAN, I might add) and Ish Darr. Not to mention DJ’s Annalog and Moses from Higher Education Records spinning in-between the acts. The performers definitely kept the crowd on there feet.

While every artist brought more and more energy to the stage, you could find a vast amount of local talent supporting the benefit. In the building, you could find artists like Webster X, Klassik, Oye, DAD and Wave Chapelle to name a few. Proving the fact that Milwaukee artists respect the grind of their counterparts.

All in all with its crazy line-up and free Pabst for the masses, The Best Place was able to raise over $500 and donate a number of non-perishable cans all for The Hunger Task Force.

We respect that.

#WCW – Rachel Hughes

Milwaukee-based artist, Rachel Hughes first grabbed our attention with an almost complete series for the collective New Age Narcissism. The bold portraits infused the vibe of each artist and Rachel’s unique style onto a wood pallet that no one would want to take their eyes off.

Most of Rachel’s work combines wood, acrylic paint, ink and sharpie to create pieces focusing on the women figure and the culture that surrounds Dia de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead).

And we love it.

But what does she do when she’s not creating masterpieces? Well a little birdy told CopyWrite she’s incredible at a multitude of different crafts, including creating some designs for your favorite Milwaukee night bars. Bad Genie, anyone?

Check out more of her work below and maybe even get a commissioned piece. We know we can’t wait for ours.

DAD - Father Figure EP

Dad has released his debut EP, Father Figure.

With nods to some 90s hip-hop chopped and screwed together by producer Mammyth, Dad is definitely handing out rap lessons to the “kids.” His first single, Lake Drive (featured on our CW Approved playlist) had audiences across the country asking for more and we understood why.

Stream Father Figure below, download the EP here and let us know what you think of your newest role model.

#WeSeeYou Thank You BASED GOD! (Transcendence)

Sometimes there is a need to just vibe out. This EP ‘Thank You BASED GOD! (Transcendence)’ by Victor Rose is a small collection of what seems to be the reverberation of personal thoughts creased between the threads of mentally soothing beats. Poetic attraction?  Maybe. We will let you hear it for yourself.

But tell Victor Rose #WeSeeYou
