#WeeSeeYou: El Color De La Libertad (The Color of Freedom) - Ft. Latino Youth, MC(mikal), Klassik & SistaStrings

“We call America the land of the free for a reason and we are still waiting for freedom”, the voice of the youth is shaking the narrative.

Intro_Still.jpg

“Amidst divisive national debate over immigration and policies that separate families, the new student lead music video El Color De La Libertad gives voice to Latino youth, providing a powerful perspective on freedom in the United States”, says project representatives in their submission. We have all seen it. The images, the news reports, and even the heartbreaking personal testimonies from those affected but still have the platform to speak. But what about our youth?

Through collaboration between Jazale’s Art Studio and Alexander Mitchell Integrated Arts School, El Color De La Libertad (The Color of Freedom) uses the words of Latino 7th grade students with the talents of Milwaukee-based musicians MC(Mikal), Klassik, SistaStrings, and filmmaker Wes Tank to produce a video that depicts the youth narrative and positive creative process to shed light on the subject.

Spearheaded by Lead Teacher, Nora Justin, and Lead Artist, Mikal Floyd-Pruitt known on stage as, MC(Mikal) the project that started in 2017 now has something to show, that disseminates more impact and reality then most national broadcast may ever display.  Its bright colors, unifying aura and relatable production inspired by Letter to the Free, by Common, is an empowering and might we say emotional watch. (A few tears of community joy may have been dropped in the first viewing. Don’t judge! lol)

More of this is needed in the world, in our country, in our state, in our city, and in our community. Any disenfranchisement of a people is an issue that we all have to creatively address.

¿Qué son Los Colores de Libertad? All of them!

#WeSeeYou Kids!

Please spread the good vibes, the bright spirits, and the youth voice. They will be our difference.

#WeSeeYou Lili K - MAGIC (Official Video)

Sometimes we need a little magic... (maybe even a little hope)

& in Lili K's video for "Magic" she's given us some much needed truth as she speaks on the treatment of women in today's society from misogyny to rape culture.

Lili K, a talented songstress from Milwaukee, shows off her soulful voice while declaring that we need to do better as a society. The track is a clear inspiration to change the way men (and maybe even some women) treat women. There’s even a part about midway through the track that runs through the several insults men hurl at women sometimes on a daily.

Directed & filmed by Addison Wright & J Frank, in the video you'll notice symbols of strength, confidence, and just a simple and bold reminder that WOMEN ARE NOT MEANT TO BE SOLD. Lili surrounding herself with strong women of all curves and shades. We can't get enough. (ShoutOut to all the LadyBosses out there in the world.)

Watch the video below and get ready for her sophomore album, Planet of Flowers expected to be released Feb 2017.

You have to love him for his ambition. CT has been a vital part of the "movement" since, well...the beginning. He has recently released his debut single "Heroin Flow (Born Wit It)" produced by Milwaukee's Mike-A-Knight Beats, turning his perspective from analysts to executor. This single serves as the introduction to CT's transition from blogger to rap artist and will be featured on his debut EP 'Not Bad For a Blogger'. Going for the spot light with a purpose, he has decided to take his talents to the music game to share his vision and voice.  Lets see how this play out.

Check out his skills and flow & let us know if you think he is ready for the game.

#Pause #WeSeeYou Ruezophrenia By: Rue The Poet

Sometimes you just have to hit #Pause. Digest what the H-E-L-L you really just heard, run it all the way back and then #Pause again, because it's really just that dope.

It happens, not too frequently but it happens.

"Ruezophrenia" by Rue The Poet, is a song that exemplifies that moment and is the inspiration for CopyWrite’s new hashtag series:

#Pause

It's one of the best executed, “Stay in your lane, and off of my thrown” tracks I have ever heard. “Ruezophrenia" has flawless wordplay, tedious jabs of well deserved ego, and flow….lots and lots of flow. If you haven't heard this one yet you are sure in for a treat. Be ready to hit #Pause, and run it back.

#WeSeeYou Sean Smart - Stupid/Smart (Miilkbone Remix)

Don't sleep on Sean.

Smart or stupid, Sean Smart is never lacking on the rhymes tip.

His newest flow, "Stupid/Smart" solidifies the respect we have for this emcee, telling the world that any chance he gets he will be killing anything he touches. If you don't find him in a booth killing a verse, you can find him behind the computer screen creating the looks for local art shows, cover art for other artists as well as even designs for his own clothing line, Naēs Wear.

Listen to the track below or watch the video but as always #WeSeeYou Sean.

#WeSeeYou - Patski

A few weeks ago I was randomly at an event with my guy (somewhere I had no business being might I add, but yet and still I was there). This dude was passing out burnt CD’s, with Sharpie writing on them, but in a CD slip with the tracklist and cover art (idk how I felt about that, but I guess that's not the point). He handed one to both of us and said “Look bro, if you don't like what you hear by the first three songs throw it out the window.” That to me raised a red flag plus the harshly design cover art (#designerissues), I was definitely not going to waste my time. He of course had no idea who I was or what I do, I doubt anyone in that room did, hence a place i had no “business” being, but you never know where CopyWrite might show up. I took the CD and planned to dispose of it later but never did. It sat in the pocket of my passenger side door, till the other day I was driving back from Chicago and it just kept haunting my peripheral view. I reach for it and thought “Let me listen to it before I chuck it out the window.”

And guess what... it wasn't bad. For what it was, there was something there. I'm not sure what that something is, but I continued to listen pass the the 3rd song and let it play for a 2nd time. And within that evening I played it another 2 times trying to analyze what I was hearing. Enough that I think it's important to acknowledge. He took a risk handing out those CD’s. And I took a risk to listen. Maybe if we all take a few more risk we may find some pathways we have not yet explored. So check out Patski’s “DatRoof” demo and leave a comment and let us know what you think. We really want to know what's your perspective on this one.

And #WeSeeYou Patski, thanks for the CD!

We've never really needed an excuse for some cream, sugar or honey.

So go watch Lex Allen's newest video for "Cream and Sugar," featuring his NAN family, Webster X with production by Q the Sun.

The sensual and beautifully documented video was created by Cody LaPlant and Damien Klaven and we personally can't get enough of it. With a little bit of creepy twist that make you ask is all that sweet stuff worth it.

Enjoy and watch out for what Lex Allen has next for us. #WeSeeYou and your Sugar, Honey, Ice Tea.
