Governor Tony Evers Declares October WI Tech Month

Governor Evers has proclaimed October as WI Tech Month in the state of WI. WI Tech Month is being presented by the Milky Way Tech Hub and Wisconsin Voices. Nadiyah Johnson, the founder of the Milky Way Tech Hub, feels it is necessary to celebrate and amplify Wisconsin’s Tech ecosystem. “We’re excited to be working with organizations throughout the state to drive awareness around the importance of technology and highlight its role in decreasing racial wealth and achievement gaps.” says Johnson.

More than 20 events have been coordinated around the state. Eau Claire, Beloit, Milwaukee, Madison, Platteville,  and Kenosha are among the many participating cities. The month will kick off with Milwaukee Tech Advocacy Week (October 1st-10th). This will be a week of civic tech events that aim to equip the general public with the tools and knowledge necessary to find their voices in technology through advocacy, policy, and legislation. The week's events will lead up to Lobby Day at the Wisconsin State Capitol building on October 8th.

MILWAUKEE, WI (October 13, 2020) –

This week the Milky Way Tech Hub announced its annual pitch competition. The Milky Way Tech Hub has partnered with American Family Institute and P5 Project to award up to $15,000 equity free funding to deserving startups. This year the event will be held virtually on November 17th giving access to a national audience. 

The goal of the Milky Way Tech Hub is to provide capital, entrepreneurial and tech education for promising startups in the Midwest while actively creating an ecosystem in Milwaukee where Black people and POC can thrive in technology.

A series of workshops will precede the big event to educate startups on topics that range from how to curate a winning pitch deck to showing the process of building successful community apps. The Milky Way Tech Hub presents these workshops in partnership with Uncrowd.io, MB Collab and MKE Black.

Entrepreneurs leading early stage technology startups from a variety of industries are encouraged to apply for The Milky Way Tech Hub Annual Pitch Competition. Selected finalists will compete on a virtual stage during the pitch competition for funding.
