Grandparent's Closet: Knit Sweater

Introducing CopyWrite’s fashion series, Grandparent’s Closet.

We all have those one-of-a-kind or very unique items that we love to wear. The big question is “where did you get it from?” and with no shame; our fashion editor Vato will say his Grandparents Closet. “If your grandparents we’re as cool as mines when they were younger, then I’m sure you’re familiar with what’s in their closet.”

In this segment, Vato takes one-of-a-kind “vintage” clothing from his relatives closet and gives it a modern twist.

Vato shows off a sweater which looks knitted in the colors black, grey, and white. As you can see in the photos below; he wears the sweater as plain and simple as possible, making it easy for people to focus on the sweater. It was given to him by his great uncle who owns a collection of sweaters.

Lex Allen - Mamas Boy

Mamas Boy.

It's not a necessarily a "good" term and it has different connotations depending on who is saying it but all in all it means the same thing; you are your mother's son.

In Lex Allen's "Mamas Boy" he sings out some of his sorrow in a heartfelt track over a heavily piano driven beat but if you listen closely you'll hear his gasps of air (shout-out to the producer). The song feels like a lullaby that is Lex's reality. Released almost a year after the passing of his mom, Lex's tribute would have made her proud. He maybe a "Mamas Boy" but that's not stopping him any. And while her spirit is still with him today, Allen is singing towards the heavens and healing through his passion and we love it.

So call your mamas, grandmamas and babymamas; remind them that they are loved and you will always be there for them, as they will you.

Listen to the track below and rest peacefully to our #WCW Lex's Mama. We wish we could have met the person that made Lex. We love your Baby Boy too. ❤️

Music.LexAllenProductions.com Lex Allens 'Mamas Boy' turns the earth shattering pain from losing his mother almost a year ago, into a heartfelt memorial with his emotional tenor voice, vivid lyrics and uplifting piano driven beat. It's the perfect soundtrack to healing and finding the silver lining after a tragedy.

MKE Street Style Interview with Rosha Brister

Read Vato's interview with stylish boss lady, Rosha Brister.

Prior to the interview; Rosha and I met at a festival, where we were able to share our passions about fashion. Rosha Brister is the owner and founder of The Style Hub, an online style directory where you will be able to locate local stylists from a variety of search options. Basically Rosha is dope and can connect with the people that you need for all things fashion and style related. In addition, this led up to Rosha asking me to host an event called, 'The Battle of Salons' Fashion Show.

We met at a coffee shop for the interview to talk her "street style."

What is your style?

Rosha likes to consider her style like the modern day 70s era. She is very fascinated with high wasted denim, crops tops, deep cut v-neck shirts, turtle necks, hats, and fur scarfs. Keeping it in a time she feels most appreciated in.

Who or what influences your style?

Rosha feels as if inspiration comes from other clothing pieces. Wondering how she could duplicate something and add her own twist to it. She says social media is one of her hugest outlets when it comes to looking at pieces to influence her style.

How does your closet look?

Rosha considers herself to be very organized and a bit of a neat freak. She has all her denim in one spot, but everything else is color coordinated, hanging up and or folded. One thing I found interesting is how she switches her closet as the seasons change.

Favorite places to shop?

Urban outfitters, American Apparel, and H&M

Follow Rosha's Style Hub on Instagram and Facebook @_thestylehub to get more updates on local fashion and style events or for your next fashion show.

AWillThaGreat - Temporary ft. King Roya'l (Prod. Millz Douglas)

Nowadays, (well in most relationships) there's no real hard definitions set for the "standard" of dating. We could go on about the crazy and complicated world that is modern dating but we're not. At the very least, most relationships are difficult. Often leaving someone in the relationship confused and most likely wondering what happened on the other side to change what this "thing" was.

In AWillThaGreat's track "Temporary", he covers the "topic of a man and his inconsistent escapades with women over time, with nothing being too steady for too long." You can feel it. A switch of his normal flow and featuring King Roya'l on the hook; he resonates a melodic sound with some internal thoughts brought to the light.

Listen to the track below and tell who you need to tell how you really feel before it's too late. You'll thank CW and AWill that you did.

Ruby Gee - One Monkey (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

One Monkey don't stop the show but it might just start it for Ruby Gee.

A Milwaukee Native turned Denver resident, Ruby Gee brings us 'One Monkey.' A track presented by Momentous Entertainment; a company owned by her and a fellow artist Anto'Neyo. 'One Monkey' a short (we would call teaser) track gives any new listeners a snippet of Ruby's flow. Heavily influenced by 90s Hip Hop, smoking (Hey, she does live in Denver) and like most female emcees the right to brag about rapping bars around her counterparts; Ruby Gee has our attention.

Ruby Gee's self-titled E.P. should be dropping pretty soon but until then peep the video below.

Bo And His Beautiful Band - Hold Me Down

We had to make you wait...NOW press play!

Some times we stall, but thats just so we can have you take another listen.

"Hold Me Down" by Bo and His Beautiful Band brings bright breathy female vocals and a electrifying male counterpart coming into the chorus giving that extra power to the track. The Single will be featured on Bo and Hiis Beautiful Bands up-and-coming EP titled, "Deux" set to drop in late February. The instrumentals is one of my favorite elements of "Hold Me Down". A smooth base groove, jazzy piano, and lots of percussion, the overall sound is not only unique but refreshing. The lyrics are simple and relatable, we all face moments of self doubt and get into situations where we feel like everybody is trying to hold us down.  Look out for the track and EP "Deux", judging off of what we have heard so far you won't want to miss this project.

#WeSeeYou Lili K - MAGIC (Official Video)

Sometimes we need a little magic... (maybe even a little hope)

& in Lili K's video for "Magic" she's given us some much needed truth as she speaks on the treatment of women in today's society from misogyny to rape culture.

Lili K, a talented songstress from Milwaukee, shows off her soulful voice while declaring that we need to do better as a society. The track is a clear inspiration to change the way men (and maybe even some women) treat women. There’s even a part about midway through the track that runs through the several insults men hurl at women sometimes on a daily.

Directed & filmed by Addison Wright & J Frank, in the video you'll notice symbols of strength, confidence, and just a simple and bold reminder that WOMEN ARE NOT MEANT TO BE SOLD. Lili surrounding herself with strong women of all curves and shades. We can't get enough. (ShoutOut to all the LadyBosses out there in the world.)

Watch the video below and get ready for her sophomore album, Planet of Flowers expected to be released Feb 2017.

Nicholas Louis - Horrible Bosses (produced by. EphRem) *COPYWRITE EXCLUSIVE*

This week in music, we bring you "Horrible Bosses" by Nicholas Louis. Cool, classic, and smooth; this artist uses music as a tool to tell amazing stories, the story of the “human” struggle. In "Horrible Bosses" he plays on the vulnerability of pure human emotion.

(Something we feel should happen more often in the music scene... but we digress.)

This track features multiple elements that express an aura that make it something everyone can chill to. With vivid lyricism and jazzy instrumentals the the artist’s reality is brought to life. On an odd tip, his voice and flow is pecking at a little J.Cole? Hmmm…

Check it out for yourself and grasp what a “Horrible Boss" really means.  You won't be sorry.

Then if you thought to question his lyrics, check out his newest freestyle dropped via Twitter on the #BackToTheTopic Challenge. You'll understand what we hear.

About The Artist

“Nicholas Louis is a diverse and unique storyteller who has spawned from a St. Louis upbringing. Using his patented approach of somehow giving his vulnerabilities to his listeners in a comfortable fashion, Nic's music just finds its' ways of resonating with you. Nic' has shown a talent for being able to capture life's pursuits and paint them in creative musical compositions. Some that have earned him a widened-variety of listeners and a core fanbase. He has even already shown the ability to create a full-body of work with his debut project Something With Substance.”

So we heard...Ha!
