We could’ve never imagined what 2020 had in store for us. Despite the challenges, we’re committed to connecting Milwaukee through real stories. Meet us on January 20th at 7pm for our first StorySlam of 2021, where we invite tellers to share stories on the theme ‘Milwaukee’.

In the second half of season 12, we’re using themes like: ‘Milwaukee’, ’Self’, and ‘Winning’ to prompt some of the season’s greatest stories yet! We’re kicking it all off by Reimagining the city we call home. ‘ReImagining Milwaukee’ will inspire stories about community, home, leadership, resilience, special spots, ugly truths and more! This competitive slam is virtual; Zoom entry starts at 6:30pm and stories begin at 7pm on January 20th.

Our Brave Space affinity workshops are back by popular demand. These focused workshops are open to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) from all across the city at no cost to attendees; dates listed on www.exfabula.org/tickets/. Can’t get enough of local stories? Tune in to 104.1 fm or stream from riverwestradio.com every Sunday from 3:30pm-4pm as co-hosts Michaela Lacy and Nicole Acosta revisit stories from past slams and events.

COVID-19 continues to affect many homes financially. Our ‘Pay it forward tickets’ will keep our events & workshops accessible. How it works: Purchase a ticket to any of our slams or workshops and purchase one for someone else to enjoy! Community members can request these free tickets, which are supported by contributions from members and donors. More information available on our website, http://www.exfabula.org/.

Our programming is more accessible than ever since going virtual. We’ve designed highly interactive and virtual workshops created just for businesses, schools, and community groups. Want to collaborate? Let’s chat! Or visit exfabula.org/host

‘Reimagining’ the Future of Storytelling! (From our Partners at Ex Fabula)

*info provided by Ex Fabula

Milwaukee, WI – August 31st, 2020   This year has been filled with revolution, introspection and lots of change. But through it all, storytelling continues to move us. In season 12 Ex Fabula will be REIMAGINING the future of storytelling.

This fall, through themes like ‘Love’, ‘Childhood’, ‘Norms’, and ‘Celebration’, we invite community to share stories at our virtual StorySlams. On Thursday, September 17th ‘Love’ enters the chat as we explore stories of unions, living together, romance, self-care, dating, make-ups, break ups and more! This competitive slam is virtual; Zoom entry starts at 6:30pm and stories begin at 7pm.

Additionally, we’re offering new and improved public workshops, Black and Latinx/a/o Brave Space affinity workshops, and we’re back on the radio every Sunday from 3:30pm-4pm 104.1FM. Our multi-generational slam and MANDI award nominated Deaf StorySlam were so successful last year that we’re bringing them back! The 2nd Annual Deaf StorySlam takes place on Sunday, September 27th at 1pm and our multi-generational StorySlam happens on Sunday, October 4th at 1pm. Both slams are noncompetitive and tickets are available now at exfabula.org/tickets.

We understand COVID-19 has affected many homes financially. To keep our events & workshops accessible, we’re introducing ‘Pay it forward tickets’. Purchase a ticket to any of our slams or workshops and purchase one for someone else to enjoy! Community members can request these free tickets, which are supported by contributions from members and donors.

We’ve become experts in facilitating highly interactive and virtual workshops created just for businesses, schools and community groups. Want to collaborate? Let’s chat! Or visit exfabula.org/host.

Now is the perfect time to experience the power of storytelling. Use your personal stories to reimagine a new normal, reconnect with one another and drive action. Visit our website at exfabula.org/tickets to learn more about our upcoming StorySlams, workshops and special events.

Experience True, Personal Forgiveness Stories at End of Season Slam! *Partnership Post*

All Stars_8.5x11_flier_4_25.jpg

Milwaukee, WI - May 8, 2019   Ex Fabula tellers return to the stage to compete for the title “Season 10 Audience Favorite”! Ex Fabula is wrapping up Season 10 with the annual ALL STARS event at Turner Hall Ballroom on Saturday, May 18th. This competitive curated StorySlam will return to Turner Hall Ballroom located in Downtown Milwaukee; doors open at 6:30pm, stories begin at 7:30pm.

What is Ex Fabula ALL STARS? ALL STARS is a StorySlam featuring community members who were voted “Audience Favorites” at regular season StorySlams; they’ll be returning to the stage to share new, 10-minute stories on the evening’s theme, “Forgiveness”. Audience members can also participate in the storytelling by submitting UltraShorts, which are brief, true personal stories written on slips of paper and then read onstage by the emcee. Then, at the end of the night, the audience votes and crowns a Season 10 Audience Favorite.

This year, the Audience Favorites are Elizabeth Brown, Julie Cole, Jude Treder-Wolff, Molly Snyder, Rick Karlson, and Matthew Lewis; these community members are currently crafting new prepared ten-minute stories to share at ALL STARS.

“Last year, the theme was ‘Connection’. The stories ran the gamut: love letters, brothers, addiction and recovery, spreading ashes, reconnecting with family roots, and even an unintentional bank robbery! ALL STARS is always a beautiful evening of feel-good entertainment and I’m so excited to hear the stories this year." says Executive Director, Megan McGee.

Ex Fabula is a Milwaukee nonprofit that has been strengthening community bonds through the art of storytelling since 2009. Please note this is an all ages event, highlighting a variety of stories. Because the nature of StorySlams, with true stories shared in an open-mic format, we do not control the content of the stories that might be shared.

ALL STARS advance tickets are available for $12 at the Pabst Theatre Group’s website; advance tickets are highly recommended and seating is general admission.

A word from our partners:

Ex Fabula is thrilled to partner with CopyWrite Magazine. This partnership will combine different forms of expression and produce a space for community members’ true, personal stories in written and visual form. By connecting the stage to the page, both Ex Fabula and CopyWrite will reach new audiences, connect with new storytellers, and build community.

- Megan McGee, Executive Director of Ex Fabula

As we continue to support the local we will now be vocal in our partnerships to further connections in our community and to bring light to the real bonds that have elevated the Urban creative scene in MKE. This is the Art of Storytelling!
