2Hi - White Lighter Bad Luck [ALBUM]

After a few years of loosies and EP’s, the dropping of his first full length project “2 Birds” last year, and being left with the bread crumb that was “Round and Round” back in August just for this moment here, local artist 2Hi continues the narrative of his rockstar lifestyle with the drop of his second Album, White Lighter Bad Luck.”  Lyrically accompanied by the acclaimed NilexNile, otherwise known as Nile, Lake, and executive productions by No B, this melodic psychedelia is the melancholic voice of all who have found contentment with numbness, however, having subconscious undertones of self awareness and emotional longing; this all blends in to one truth while under great influence.. The intro track “Ghost” leads us straight to 2Hi’s inner conflict; there is an assertiveness here that may pass for aggression, or vice versa, in lyrics like “..And I'm in the back of the room high off the shrooms sitting, just think to myself, I am an artist who starvin’, no I can't bargain, I gotta double my wealth..lil bitch im cool, I don't need help, all of this work under my belt- I gotta do it all myself, I gotta do it all myself..” and the words “I gotta work on myself, I gotta work on myself..'' are heard faintly a lines afterwards, signaling the slip into 2Hi’s subconscious, his real thoughts, “..I'm an animal, I can't live with myself, only hurts if you take it out and you put my heart on the shelf, I just need your help…”

WLBL led with this tone for another 5 tracks and then about halfway into the album, we are temporarily given an energetic boost with “Switch Lanes”- how very telling of the motivation that many try to find after crash landing back on Earth into their own reality. This is made for the ‘fast and the furious’ (don't do it, drive safely), when you feel like a flexer, bump this!!….Annnnnd right back into the feels. Old habits die hard and some norms can't seem to be shaken in “Tattoos.” 2Hi comes a bit cleaner about his vices, even more so about the norms of his life experiences that trigger those vices; “ I got tattoos on my soul, I woke up lost on the road, I know that I'm on my own, mountains to me look like stones- I take these drugs to fly home...I seen it all just unfold, I seen this shit happen before…” Very easily, the methods taken on for masking continuous pain are cause for being misunderstood by those on the outside looking in because of one’s own miseducation on how to cope properly, leaving room to be branded (“tattooed”) as everything that we do not intend to really be. Tell me how YOU feel about “ White Lighter Bad Luck,” Milwaukee.

A.C the Ruler - From Milwaukee with Love

ac.png

The word of today is Versatility!

A.C the Ruler is a local rapper who recently released his album, From Milwaukee with Love. From Milwaukee with Love is a 11 track album consisting of rap, R&B and disco elements. This album is a very easy listen and I love the versatility in this piece. The album has an overall theme of contentment but each song has its own message and vibe. My favorite songs on the album are “Stay up”, “A Milwaukee Night'' and “Scorpio”. I would suggest everyone listen to “Stay Up” off of the album because I can easily hear this song on my playlist and the radio. The song features artists ninefivehouse and Stephanie Young with spoken word, an R&B hook and mellow melody. “Scorpio” features Marzo and samples “If you let me” by Sinead Harnett and even has an amazing remix for the outro of the album. Lastly, “A Milwaukee Night” is probably my favorite song on the entire album. Milwaukee native, A.C chose the perfect song to name after his hometown Milwaukee. A.C is definitely up next and I suggest everyone add him to your musical roaster NOW!

media arts curriculum

With community collaboration being one of the major components in CopyWrite’s mission, we believe that aiding in the cultivation of creativity in our city is vital and that youth engagement continues the relevance of these practices. We partner with local organizations, schools, and creative groups to implement a creative curriculum that supports the mediated practices our youth are confronted with daily. There are several ways in which we teach the practices of media-making, but we firmly believe it is critical to give youth real-world experiences that provide real-world results. This can be working on content creation for a specific organizational campaign, or making their own group magazine. We shape our curriculum to meet the needs of whatever clients we are working with. At the base of our “Media Arts” we include practices of literacy, problem-solving, collaboration, and creative expression through several active workshops including (but not limited to):

• Story Development

• In the field research

• Visual asset creation and curation

• Copywriting

• Art Direction

• Layout development

• Media promotion

• Introduction to Computer Software

Music Review: Intermission Music by Vato

It reminds me of the days when Pops used to come scoop me in the white Lincoln. Driving down Capital with the music up high but the beats were so smooth in the those days, it never seemed to disturb a soul. At stop lights cars would pull up and the driver would just nod their heads, like “I see you”...yeah reminds me of the good times, that were just the in between times, the ones we forget to notice. The intermissions.

Intermission Music by Vato, brought back that random nostalgia. The nine track project, with its recognizable lyric samples, lucid beats and raw layered production, is perfect for those moments where you just need a little escape within the confines of reality.

The first track “Boxed (BTS)” leads you into the concept of opening up. As the list of songs play through, you can hear a trend of mental stimulation, elevation and observation. “Stress Free Zone” gives the listener a reminder to be a little more joyous in the struggle. Followed by “D.O.O.B.I.E.S.” & “Marry, Marry, Marry”, smoke themed tracks, that are catchy and perfect for a chiefing session. Vato's manish behavior, comes out in a “young” sultry rendition of R.Kelly’s “Your Body’s Callin”, titled “Callin”.

Intermission Music is the kind of project whose references you won’t understand unless you been vibing with the game since young blood, but still it may help some new age music lovers divulge some “thrifty” techniques, something that makes Vato fit into his own niche on the local scene.

We see a growth in Vato’s confidence and look forward to hearing Intermission Music, between all those major moments that need a dose of good vibes.
