NilexNile - Elon Musk (video submission)

We believe that with a minimum you can make a masterpiece.

NilexNile’s video for his track “Elon Musk”, shows simplistic living, swift production by bdwthr with matching bars, lightly traveled snow paths and a whimsy side to satire [if that can even be a thing].

“Take your time, find your way, on the way”, is just one line of NilexNile’s reflection. The shuffle of the moment seemed so fleeting but so impactful. Even the moment called out blatantly with the lyricist standing in front of a BLM mural, posture simply a matter of fact.

Ride this one out with us y’all.

Cam Will - Vibes (video submission)

Well excussseeee the hell out of meeeeee! But Mr. Cam Will, who told you to kill this video like that, huh?

To apply pressure with slight work is quite a skill set and as we have been noticing, Cam Will has not let up. With a well crafted track, meaty bars, and quite the catchy flow, it turns the video into sport. Black on Black with masked faces linked up in the middle of a small stadium, challenges the “vibe” of who the hell Cam thinks he is.

He answers the question with technique and a “vibe” that is quite nostalgic for people like me. These figures are not just “anybody” but everybody. A squad cauldron of faces known, but also mysterious, unrecognizable, and unfuckwitable. Movement like a chain that can not be broken, a pacing heartbeat on the race to something great.

Is this Milwaukee Music? In all the ways language can remove the stigma of that phrase. . . YES!

As Cam says “They should know the vibes” and I do. They are the same kind that sparked CopyWrite. A young hunger that is unsatisfied until it awakens something bigger.

It’s something there. . . but word to the wise. . . make sure when you wake up that beast you have something to feed it.

[I’m putting this one in rotation]

Cardiac Da Pulse - Work (video submission)

“You a fuck boy if you don’t work. Closed caption.”

That's it! That is the line. We have nothing else to say!

S/o to Cardiac Da Pulse for the vibes as we get to this “work”. With production by DJ Payday, the track is very clear: “There is a distinction in the characters. There is distinction in the grind.”

& if y’all don’t get that, there is NOTHING else to discuss.

[HAHA we get it tho!]

We're halfway through March which means halfway through FemFest's #PortraitsOfFemme programming. FemFest is a platform for femmes, trans, GNC, women, non-binary and BIPOC, honoring the reclamation of power for those who have been historically excluded from, or not had, creative spaces!

Through collaborative planning & execution with a diverse host of women/femme-identifying & nonbinary leaders in local arts scenes, FemFest will optimize its platform for Women’s History Month with “Portraits of Femme.”

We wanted to follow up with a few new events, and remind you all of the rest of this months initiatives:

By tagging @rwfemfest & @copywritemag, along with the hashtag #PortraitsOfFemme artists’ will have their creations re-shared across multiple platforms.

  • March 25th, 6 PM CST | Ms. Lotus Fankh is hosting a panel discussion around the topic Impact & Importance of Women in Music. This event will stream live on Facebook from the Ms. Lotus Fankh and the FemFest pages. Lakeyah- Time’s Up

times up.png

There’s always a time to give one their roses…. And Lakeyah’s time is now!

Milwaukee native, Lakeyah Danae is the newest artist signed to Quality Control Music and released two projects in 2020, Key Mix II and Time’s Up

Lakeyah’s latest project Time’s Up, released December 2020 features an all star line up such as label mates City Girls, 42 Dugg and Inayah. Time’s Up includes rap, R&b and dance tracks that showcase Lakeyah’s range.

The constant theme of her project is that she has something to prove and it’s already being proven! Her singles from the album “Big FlexHer” and “Female Goat” are perfect examples of this theme. She also shows off her vocals on “Worst Thing” which samples Jasmine Sullivans “Bust Your Windows.” [a cult favorite].

My favorite songs are “Worst Thing” and “2 Tone.” Both songs are very different but instantly caught my attention making me replay them over and over. “Worst Thing” is really relatable and reminds me of Eve, in her prime. Now, Lakeyah’s flow on “2 Tone” is unmatched!  It is now my new turnup song!

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out Lakeyah’s latest album and videos. Her confidence, flow and versatility makes her flowers well deserved.
